Who needs fostering?

Any child or young person who cannot be cared for in their own family. There are babies and toddlers, school aged children and children with disabilities. There are brothers and sisters who need to stay together and teenagers and young parents. There are those who come seeking asylum from abroad.

Many children arrive from homes troubled by violence, abuse, illness, neglect, drink or drug addiction. Whatever their experiences they will be confused and anxious.

When a child is taken into care in Portsmouth, the council becomes responsible for his or her welfare. Social workers then work with families to make the home a safe place for a child – with the hope that many children and parents can be reunited.
