Could you spare a weekend a month to look after a child?
Whatever you did last weekend, would you give up your next one to look after a child?
Portsmouth City Council are looking for someone in the South to provide respite foster care for a bright and engaging 11 year old boy one weekend a month.
Andrew enjoys gymnastics, gets on well with little children and likes animals. He is doing well with his full time foster carers and will live with them until he is independent. However he can be active and challenging to care for at times.
The respite arrangement will give his full time foster carers a monthly break, and allow Andrew to enjoy some new activities and experiences too. Spending time helping him to grow and develop would be a very rewarding experience.
Ideally we are looking for a couple, with no children living at home and a spare room, who would be able to look after him one weekend each month on a long term basis. You should be able to maintain firm boundaries, whilst having a fun time too.
If you feel you can support this boy and his excellent foster carers please contact us on 023 9237 4879 or email Allison.Harper@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
We are also looking for people to provide permanent foster homes for children aged between 5 and 14 years who are currently waiting.
If you have the space and the skills then please call 023 9237 4879 or visit www.fosterportsmouth.co.uk
You could be a foster carer:
- if you have a spare room
- if you have the commitment to care for a child or young person
- regardless of your marital status or sexuality
- whether you own your home or rent
- if you are aged 24 or above (there is no upper age limit)
- if you work full time – providing family link or supportive lodgings care could suit you
- whether you live in Portsmouth or the surrounding area
The council’s fostering service was assessed as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in September 2010. Portsmouth offer competitive rates, mentoring, training and development, supervision and networking, including out of hours support.
